Nice quiet stay in a lovely historic village, recommend staying in on-peak hours.

Pros: The room was very nice and the staff were friendly and helpful. Lovely building and location!

Cons: We ended up staying in off-peak hours as this wasn't very clear on the website. The museums were closed and the restaurants had limited hours.

Fort Bourtange stayover

Pros: The area was beautiful and well kept. There is a lot of old houses that was beautifully restored and a windmill and other places that could be viewed. It was a trip back in history.

Cons: The breakfast was mainly bread and a few slices of cheese and boiled egg.

Very nice B&B style hotel in a beautiful fortress town

Pros: Nice rooms in old fortress buildings Well equipped rooms and with good mattresses (firm, which I personally like) Decent breakfast in a separate fortress building Two restaurants a few steps away on the central square Bourtange is a very beautiful location, especially towards the evening, when the majority of the day-tourists are gone. Very quiet at night.

Cons: The hotel buildings have quite steep stairs to the upper floor; people who have a problem with that should try to book a ground floor room.

Pros: Great location in middle of the fort. Lovely countryside around and fascinating fort.

Cons: No hairdryer and basic breakfast.

Awesome place to stay and inside the fort, right on our cycle path!

Pros: Very comfortable cottage in the centre of the fort! Very clean. Loved the big bath tub after a hard day cycling. Breakfast was excellent. Check in was easy at the information centre. Theme of the room was fun! Meal at the restaurant was great.

Pros: Accommodation is very comfortable and very cute. With some medieval touch. The breakfast was delicious. The fortress itself is supercute and very beautiful. Unique experience.

Fabulous experience

Pros: Amazing location. All staff friendly and helpful. Breakfast was lovely. It was a great experience and a bonus to see the village when all the visitors had gone. We stayed in a box bed and despite reservations (tall people) it was very comfortable. Spotlessly clean everywhere.
